Gravity Discovery Centre upgrade

Our facilities and exhibits were constructed at a cost of $6 million over 20 years ago but have not had any major investment or upgrade since. Visitor feedback is consistent. We offer great experiences but the aging facilities diminish the experience, lessen our impact and jeopardize our reputation.

A transformation is planned to completely redesign our internal and external exhibition spaces, create new exhibits and content, and future-proof the base buildings with modern upgrades.

Over the next 2 years, we will raise $9 million for a high-specification redevelopment that will inspire people to develop meaningful connections with science and culture.

It will feature “wow-factors” like a planetarium ceiling projection, gravitational wave displays, a double helix stairway slide and spiral ramp and an orrey mechanical model of the solar system.

We will relaunch as The Western Australian Space Observatory Centre as part of the 2029 Perth Bicentenary and hope to welcome 60,000+ people in the first year. The Centre will have a Noongar name.
